John Welles Death Arcadia FL Case Update

John Welles’ death case has been listed in the forgotten cases after 19 years of its occurrence. When we dig deep into the 2003 murder, we can see the development fading with time.

John Welles, 17, died Tuesday, July 8th. He was born in Arcadia. He died in Arcadia. Not more of a Southerner could one be. As a member of the 4-H Club, he showed steers at the annual fairs, and was an ardent NASCAR fan. He fished mostly but would hunt as well. He collected knives like his Uncle Robert, but later graduated to guns.

John returned home from the local Wal-Mart in Arcadia, FL at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2003, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies went to a complaint around 4:30 p.m., and John’s corpse was discovered floating in Joshua Creek.

Well, I did say Arcadia! Not to worry. (He had completed gun safety class) John played poker (with anyone who could be suckered in) and other card games that his Granddad Mel taught him. John was most proud of the card games he invented himself (he was undefeated at last count).

He was boy through and through. He attended Sunshine and Alva Elementary Schools in Lee County. He was a senior at DeSoto High School and was to graduate in the Class of 2004 (but would do anything to get out of school). He loved nature and the outdoors. He finally started listening to Rock n Roll (102.5). He was passionate about music and listened to, tuned in, or burned it daily.

In 2014, the Forgotten cases were posted on Facebook asking for people to inform if they knew anything regarding it. If the person who withheld the information has no connection to the murder, he would not be charged as per the Criminal Investigation.

Welles’ death was a mysterious one and the dead body was discovered by the police force inside a ditch.

Investigators first believed John perished by accident when he fell into the water, but an autopsy indicated otherwise. After shooting John in the eye, the killer threw his body into the sea, where he drowned.
