Roddy Ricch Arrested on Weapons Charges Before Taking Governor’s Ball Stage

Rodrick Wayne Moore Jr., better known by his stage name Roddy Ricch has been arrested in weapons charges in New York City.

The rapper was supposed to perform at the Governor’s Ball festival in the city but was arrested before that and is now in NYPD custody for multiple gun charges. TMZ reports that Roddy and his team were stopped at a security checkpoint for the festival that is happening at the CITI field in Queens this weekend.

Who Is Rapper Roddy Ricch?

Rodrick Wayne Moore Jr. born October 22, 1998, known professionally as Roddy Ricch, is an American rapper and singer. He rose to fame in 2018 with his single, “Die Young”, which peaked at number 98 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Ricch’s first two mixtapes, Feed Tha Streets (2017) and Feed Tha Streets II (2018), also received widespread acclaim. In 2019, Ricch was featured alongside Hit-Boy on Nipsey Hussle’s single, “Racks in the Middle”, which earned him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance, and on Mustard’s Grammy-nominated single “Ballin'”, which reached the top 20 of the Hot 100.

Ricch’s debut studio album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, was released through Atlantic Records and Bird Vision Entertainment on December 6, 2019, and debuted atop the Billboard 200, becoming his first chart-topping album.

It spawned the Hot 100 number-one single “The Box”, which earned him a diamond certification by the RIAA, as well as the top ten single “High Fashion”, which features Mustard. Later in 2020, Ricch’s feature on DaBaby’s single, “Rockstar”, became his second number-one single on the Hot 100. His second studio album, Live Life Fast, was released on December 17, 2021.

Ricch has won several accolades, including a Grammy Award from nine different nominations, as well as two BET Awards, two BET Hip Hop Awards, and an American Music Award.

 

Arrest Details: Where Is Roddy Ricch Now?

Rapper Roddy Ricch was scheduled to perform at the Governors Ball festival in Queens, New York City, on Saturday. But instead, he was arrested on weapons charges in New York City on June 11, 2022.

The rapper was detained first and is now being held by the NYPD on various firearms charges.

According to TMZ, Roddy and his group were detained at a security checkpoint for the weekend festival at the CITI Field in Queens.

Before Roddy was supposed to take the stage, the festival announced that he would no longer be performing.

Instead of Ricch’s performance, fans who waited in line got a message on the screen. This message advised them that Ricch would not be performing, but that they should go see Denzel Curry on the Bacardi Stage or Joji on the GoPuff Stage instead.

This week, Governors Ball saw a number of participants withdraw from the event. Migos was the first to drop out. This sparked speculations of a breakup, which were quickly debunked.

Lil Wayne was supposed to take their place, but he had to cancel due to a “flight disruption.” Wayne was replaced by A$AP Ferg.

Roddy was recently featured on the “Cooped Up” single from Post Malone’s “Twelve Carat Toothache” album. In December, Roddy released his sophomore album, “Live Life Fast.” In the United States, it debuted at number four.

According to law enforcement sources, officers found a loaded firearm inside the vehicle he was taking to the show. There were allegedly about 9 rounds of ammo as well as a large capacity magazine before his performance at Governors Ball. Fans are venting their dissatisfaction on social media.

“Why are there so many cancellations and last-minute substitutions?” one commented.

While another blame the officers for not waiting till he has performed and wrote, “You think the cops couldn’t keep their cool and apprehend him after he performed?”

“They must be getting compensated for these gigs on the side. Is there a single good cop among us who watches out for and assists people in his neighborhood? No, they behave superior to us and keep an eye out for other cops.”

The rapper and two more people were arrested and hit with the following charges: 4 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a large capacity ammo feeding device and unlawful possession of that device. The festival made the announcement of Roddy not performing anymore before he was set to take the stage.

In August 2019, Moore was again arrested for felony domestic violence  after reportedly assaulting his girlfriend, Allie Minati, at his Los Angeles home. Moore was arrested at 5:40 a.m. PT and released on a $50,000 bond later that day.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office later dismissed all charges owing to a lack of evidence.

Roddy Ricch has an estimated net worth of $22million as of 2022. Forbes in 2021 wrote his worth to be $20 million.

His debut album, ‘Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial,’ spent four weeks at the top of the charts earlier this year, and he received his first Grammy.

“The Box,” the album’s smash single, went popular on TikTok, with over 1.2 billion videos including his song. Ricch, who was taught by Nipsey Hussle, the late rapper, and activist, has started investing in commercial real estate in Compton.

A foundation to educate financial literacy people of the city, where only 8% of the adult population has a bachelor’s degree, is also in the works. “Investing in Compton just felt like my obligation,” he says.

Ricch released a live rendition of an unpublished song named “Heartless” on March 14, 2021, which he debuted at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. He also collaborated with fellow American rapper 42 Dugg on the song “4 Da Gang,” which was released as the lead single off the latter’s commercial mixtape, Free Dem Boyz, on April 2.

Ricch was also featured alongside American singer Bryson Tiller and American rapper Lil Baby on DJ Khaled’s single “Body in Motion.” It was released on April 30 from the latter’s self-titled twelfth studio album, Khaled Khaled.

Moreover, on May 21, Ricch released “Stunnaman,” a duet with fellow American rapper Birdman that features American artist Lil Wayne.

Ricch released “Late at Night,” the lead single from his second studio album, Live Life Fast, on June 4.

Ricch was associated with Allie Kay, also known as Allie Minati as his wife. She is a 25-year-old model and fashionista who is rumored to be the owner of the Minati fashion line.

Minati gave birth to their son in April 2020. However, ever since she has not updated about her relationship with Ricch, and neither has he.
