Vasu Laroiya Pleads guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide

Vasu Laroiya, a 24-year-old former Rutgers student, pleaded guilty in Albany County Court to aggravated vehicular homicide.

He was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.12. Laroiya was also speeding at 156 mph while making a Snapchat video when he rear-ended U-Albany student Katryn Fisher, causing her Honda to crash into the guardrail and burst into flames. Fisher later died from her injuries.

As part of his plea agreement, Laroiya admitted to driving recklessly while intoxicated and using his cell phone to make a Snapchat video. He also admitted to having a prior alcohol-related conviction from New Jersey in 2019. Laroiya faces a sentence of 8 1/3 to 25 years in state prison when he is sentenced on January 26, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.

Vasu Laroiya was drunk driving when he slammed into the back of a 22-year-old woman’s car, causing her car to burst into flames and killing her, prosecutors said.
