Rhode Island Dietician Allegedly Gunned Down By Husband In Suspected Murder-Suicide
Courtney Huard, 42, and her husband, Eric Huard, 51, were found shot to death in their Rhode Island home with their three children inside. The officers discovered the couple’s body on Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022.
Police were called to their Cumberland, Rhode Island, home at around 6.40am on Birchwood Drive with reports of a couple suffering from gunshot wounds.
Investigators previously suspected the incident was not a random act of violence.
However, one month after the tragic shooting, the Cumberland Police Department released a final update on the married couple’s death.
Police revealed in a July 22 news release that Cumberland Police detectives determined that Courtney was a domestic homicide victim.
The married couple was pronounced dead on the scene while their three kids were unharmed. The Cumberland Police Department initially stated the incident appeared to be isolated. The investigators determined the couple died in an apparent murder-suicide.
Cumberland Police stated that Courtney was the victim of domestic homicide. Her husband, Eric, fatally shot her before turning the gun on himself while their kids were still at home last month.
Who was Courtney Huard From Rhode Island?
Courtney Huard was described as “loving and dedicated mother,” according to her obituary. The Rhode Island mom, who worked as a dietician, was the owner and operator of True Self Nutrition Counseling LLC in Cumberland, according to her LinkedIn profile.
She was born in Providence, the daughter of Monique Charpentier and step-daughter of Michael Charpentier of Cumberland. Further, she is the daughter of the late Edward Carpenter Jr. and step=daighter of the late Kathy Carpenter.
She graduated from Rhode Island University, obtaining a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in nutrition in 2003 and 2006, respectively.
“Those in the community would always see her on the sidelines of her children’s events with a bright smile cheering them on,” Courtney Huard’s obituary stated. “She also enjoyed riding her bike, running and walking her dogs Luna and Pearl. Those who love her will always remember her love for her family, her gift to talk, especially to her close friends and family on the phone.”
Eric Huard worked as a lineman for National Grid for the past five years, his obituary said.
He previously served as the Aquatic Athletics Director at a YMCA and worked as a photographer at the Pawtucket Times.

Both the Rhode Island Police and the state attorney general are investigating the incident.
Courtney was a loving mother and a kind being. Those in the community always saw her on the sidelines of her kids’ events with a bright smile, cheering on them. She loved riding a bike, running, and walking her dogs, Pearl and Luna.
Her husband, Eric’s obituary, described him as a loving and doting father. He was always there for his wife and children, whether coaching games or baking. He enjoyed it all and loved seeing his kids smile with joy.

On Wednesday, authorities announced that Eric Huard fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
“We are reminded that there are three children who lost their parents, and two families that are devastated by the loss of their loved ones,” Cumberland Police Chief Matthew Benson said on July 22. “Our thoughts continue to be with them at this time.”
The couple’s shooting was jointly investigated by the Rhode Island State Police, Attorney General Peter Neronha’s’s office and the Office of State Medical Examiners.

Courtney Huard and her husband, Eric Huard, were loving parents to their three children, Grant Huard, Blake Huard, and Sydney Huard. A GoFundMe campaign organized on behalf of the kids is currently ongoing.
Huard always adored her kids and always cheered on them with a joyous smile at children’s events. Eric was also a doting father who was always present for his kids and loved baking with his daughter Sydney.
