Joshua Graves was a boy in his early 20s from Ottawa whose action led to his death.
The man who stabbed a mother and her two daughters Monday night is the son of the family’s next-door neighbour, had a romantic interest in one of the victims, and was just days ago charged with stalking and sexual assault against another woman, CBC News has learned.
Joshua Graves, 21, was shot and killed by police after three officers fired on him when he allegedly refused to drop the knife he was using in the attack.
He came to attention after committing a heinous crime. According to CBC, he was shot to death by the police following his disobeyal and for the protection of another victim of his attack.

And, it is not by accident or anything but because he did not follow the police’s suggestions and ignored what the police said, thus trying to be a threat. He was on the watchlist as he committed the crime of stabbing two people to death. Well, he injured three people, a mother, Anne-Marie Ready, and her two daughters, Jasmine and Catherine, thus leaving the mother and the youngest daughter Jasmine to die.
At last, it was found that the killer was familiar with the victims as both parties were neighbors. Just a few days before the stabbing incident, he was charged with stalking and sexual assault against another woman.
This led to the rise in fear, and thus few online users have even demanded surety for the escalating perpetrators to be stopped. And that it needs to be done to protect women and girls from violent men.
Three days before the stabbing case, Joshua had made his appearance in court on his first criminal offense and was arrested and charged with the crime. However, he was released shortly from custody on Friday.
Greg Graves, like many of the other residents on Anoka Street late Monday night, watched as police responded to what he didn’t realize was his own son on a violent rampage.
He heard the sirens, the police commands to drop the knife, the gunshots.
“He was my baby boy,” he told CBC News by phone Wednesday.
In a statement he prepared for the Ready family, Greg Graves wrote that “Words cannot express how devastated, bewildered and sad I am for the loss of your mother and daughter.
“I believe I know the demons my son was grappling with that resulted in the terrible actions. It is a tragedy for all of us and one we will need to understand and reconcile in the days ahead.”
Greg Graves said there is deep pain in his heart and deep respect for all the loss of life. “May we find peace and forgiveness,” his statement reads.

Joshua Graves was reportedly shot to death and killed by police because he allegedly refused to drop the sharp knife which he used in the attack and stabbing.
Police showed up at 1273 Anoka St. at about 10:30 p.m. Monday after a 911 call from the house in which screaming could be heard.
Patrol officers arrived to find Graves in the act of stabbing Catherine Ready on the street just outside. They ordered him to drop the knife, according to preliminary information released by Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
When Graves didn’t obey those orders, three different patrol officers fired on him.
Graves was pronounced dead at the scene. Catherine Ready was taken to hospital for her multiple stab wounds and gunshot wound.
Police found the bodies of both her mother and sister nearby.
As to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the officers ordered the attacker to drop the knife, but he did not obey them. Thus, they shot fire at him to protect the victim and safety.
Catherine Ready, who was rescued on time, survived the attack and was taken to hospital for her multiple stab wounds and gunshot wound.

Joshua Graves’ victims were a 50-year-old woman Anne who worked as a trade commissioner at Global Affairs, and her daughter Jasmine Ready (15). Fortunately, the 19-year-old eldest daughter Catherine Ready survived both the stabbing and is currently hospitalized. As per the reports, he has shown a love interest in one of the daughters.
Neighbours described the family, especially the sisters, as friendly fixtures on the street who they often saw walking their dog or mowing the lawn.
By Wednesday afternoon, police tape that had closed off the scene had been torn down and a special cleaning crew was waiting to enter the Ready family home.
Right next door at the home of Greg Graves, a woman left trays of food and beverages at the front door.
Joshua Graves Family And Mental Illness
His mom stated that she believes that he had a history of mental illness and was starting to get medical treatment. His family also said that his mental health struggles were found nearly a year ago and went undiagnosed until August of 2021. Later, he was found to have suffered from a major depressive disorder.
Just a week ago on June 24, Joshua Graves was charged with three counts of assault, criminal harassment, and sexual assault for allegedly stalking another woman.
