Sacramento Shootings: Update On Fair Oaks area Shooting

Sacramento investigators revealed new details of how they believe the downtown shooting played out second by second.

Two people are dead after two shootings officials in Sacramento County said Monday evening are connected, the second shooting in retaliation to the first that happened at a park.

At Fair Oaks Park around 5:55 p.m. — it was crowded full of people then — one man walked up to a group of people and shot specifically at another man in that group, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Rodney Grassmann said.

That gunman then started running but was chased by at least one armed person from that group who shot and hit the first shooter multiple times across the street in front of an apartment complex, according to Citrus Heights Police Department Spokesperson Casey Baldwin.

The first person hit by gunfire died at the scene, and the first gunman was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries, officials said. The second shooter has yet to be found, and no one else was injured.

Citrus Heights police will be investigating the second shooting that happened across the street, while the sheriff’s office will be looking into what led to the initial shooting. Together, both departments said they have more than 20 witnesses to speak with.

Both departments believe this shooting was not a random act and that the people involved knew each other.

There was a soccer game happening at the park when the shooting happened.

Officials said it will be “some time” before Madison Avenue near where the shootings happened will reopen.
